Fringu.com is an Indian site where users can create and download customized ringtones, wallpapers and themes for mobile phones. Users can upload their audio files, photos and images and then use the tools on the site to create custom ringtones, wallpapers and themes. Users can also download ringtones, wallpapers and themes created by others. The site has a social networking aspect as well, with users having a profile and the ability to message others and subscribe to content contributed by individual users.

Users can create ringtones by uploading an audio file, then use the tools on the site to edit the portions of the audio file they want to make up the ringtone. Users can then save the custom ringtone, making it public or private. Wallpapers are created in a similar manner. The user uploads an image file, and is given the option of cropping the image to the area they want to compose the wallpaper. The resulting file can then be saved and made private or made available publicly. The site tools are browser-based and easy to use. Users can also browse ringtones and wallpapers or search them via keyword. Hyderabad-based Fringu.com was started by Sagar and Anil in September 2008. The site has undergone steady growth since launch, with most of its traffic coming from India.

Competition to Fringu comes from sites such as Myxer and Jamster. Myxer is a free, advertising supported site like Fringu, but has an international audience and a much larger userbase. Myxer has an Alexa page rank near the 2,000 mark. Jamster is a subscription-based service, with monthly subscriptions costing $9.99. Jamster also has a much larger userbase with an Alexa page rank near 10,000. Both of these sites also offer their users the ability to create custom ringtones and wallpapers.

The Fringu site has a somewhat cluttered overall look and feel. Advertising is mixed with content and is somewhat obtrusive. Navigation, however, is intuitive, with a convenient top menu bar shown on all pages on the site. The tabs on the menu bar include Home, Ringtones, Wallpapers and My Stuff. The My Stuff tab contains links to the user’s profiles, messages, ringtones and wallpapers they have created, and subscriptions to other peoples content.

Registration at the Fringu site is required to download or create wallpapers and ringtones. The registration process asks for screen name, email address, password, first and last name, date of birth, gender, country, and mobile phone make and model. There is no premium membership offered to the Fringu site.

Fringu is recommended to anyone who wishes to download or create custom ringtones and/or wallpapers for their mobile phones. The site is very easy to use, and new content is being added daily. The editing tools on the site are very user-friendly, and a ringtone or wallpaper can be made in a matter of a few minutes.
